Corporate Email Services

Small Business Service

We are often asked how a small business of 2-500 employees can protect itself against spam. There are four main alternatives, depending on exactly how you want your email structured:
  1. The first option is to create individual SpamCop accounts for each of your users. On the existing mail setup, mail would be set to forward to the new accounts. The users would configure their mail clients to POP mail from the Corporate Email Services (CES) servers. There are several advantages to this method:
    • Existing mail setup stays intact. Existing forwards and aliases continue to function as normal.
    • Totally under the control of the business administrator to add or remove accounts.
    • Easy to pick certain accounts to filter or not filter.
  2. The second option is just a variation of the first. You can create a shadow set of accounts on your existing mail server. Forward email to SpamCop for each account and set SpamCop to forward back to the corresponding shadow account. This lets your users continue to use their local mail server, which might be an advantage.
  3. CES can be set to be the MX for your mail domain. This means email from the internet would go directly to CES instead of to your mail server. Individual accounts with your domain name would be established on the CES server. Those could be accessed from there or forwarded to your existing mail server. A reasonable number of forwards/aliases are provided for free so you only pay for individual accounts, not email addresses. This setup uses the least forwarding, but requires CES to add/remove accounts and aliases for you.
  4. Finally, there is a variation on the third option. CES can be your MX but instead of holding mail, it can "tag" suspected spam in the headers of the email, then forward all email to your existing mail server. In this configuration, CES does not need to establish individual accounts for your users or even have a list of users. All email is filtered and sent to you, regardless of the destination address. The disadvantage is that your users must configure their email program to filter the spam, or you must filter it at the server level. It is very simple to configure Outlook and other popular email programs to filter tagged spam into a separate folder. Pricing is per user even though a list of users isn't required to set up the system.

Pricing for any of the options above is the same: $30 per year per account. This is only a fraction of what studies have estimated spam costs companies every year per user. And, it keeps all that junk out of your employees' inboxes, allowing them to concentrate on more important tasks.
