SpamCop Email System for Individuals

Unsolicited commercial email, aka spam. Everyone gets it. Do you wonder what is going to be waiting for you when you open your inbox? Would you want your parents or your children to read the email you receive? If you're like most people, the answer is no. Ads for illegal prescription drugs, pyramid scams, child pornography, and online gambling mix with the barrage of soliciations for merchant accounts, new credit histories, and cheap mortgages. Recent estimates are that between 60 and 80% of all email is spam. That's hundreds of millions of emails per week and the number is growing.

Now you have a choice. You can take control of your inbox. The SpamCop Email System is powerful enough for an internet veteran, but easy for anyone to use. When email for you arrives at the SpamCop Email System, it is analyzed to see if it comes from a known spam source or from a system likely to be used by spammers. If that's the case, the email is automatically moved into a special "Held Mail" folder for suspected spam. What's left is your good email, free of nearly all spam.

The SpamCop Email System can work with your old email address or give you a new permanent email address that will work no matter what ISP you use. It is simple to use, inexpensive, and means you don't have to read all that spam.

How does it work?

When email arrives at SpamCop, our systems go to work checking the email for viruses and spam. If the email has a virus, the entire email is removed. Email without viruses is checked to see if it has passed through a mail server that has been associated with spam. SpamCop has an extensive database of spam sources that is automatically updated every two minutes. All email received is checked to see if it has passed through a system which is in the database. If it is, then the message is flagged as probable spam.

Mail marked as spam is stored in a special folder on our servers for two weeks. At any time, you can login to our website and review your Held Mail. If a mail is accidentally held which isn't spam, you can easily move it to your Inbox and mark the sender so their mail won't be held any more.

You can keep your existing email program

SpamCop provides you with an email address or you can use your existing email address (see below). In either case, your mail is delivered to an Inbox which sits on our servers. If you want, you can read your email using the excellent webmail program we provide. This program lets you read and send mail, manage your address book, and download attachments all from any computer with a web browser. Or, you can set your email program (like Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape, or others) to read your mail off our servers. The system works with PC's, Mac's, and any computer that can read standard internet email.

You can keep your existing email address

The SpamCop Email System is like a water filter. We can't filter your mail unless the email actually passes through our systems. However, most people can continue using their existing email address. There are two ways to do this. One is to ask your ISP to forward your existing email address to the new address we provide. The second is to configure our system to fetch your mail from your old email address. If you can read your email using a standard email program like Outlook Express, Netscape, or Eudora, then the system can work for you.

After you have your email sent to your new account on our servers, you simply need to change your email program to read your email off our servers instead of from your ISP. The setup instructions walk you through the entire process.
